The Mandalay Bay hotel and casino in Las Vegas, NV, is planning a Michael Jackson-themed entertainment complex, that will include a Jackson-themed lounge, an interactive memorabilia museum, and a theater designed to “replicate the iconic refuge of the deceased musical legend” (Neverland Ranch), where objects from Neverland will be on display.
The complex is scheduled to open in 2013, but will be previewed in December 2011, along with a Vegas showing of a Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson show – a show that includes a massive tree, “symbolic of a favorite oak that was outside Jackson’s Neverland bedroom.” Jackson named the tree “The Giving Tree” and had a perch built in it, where he wrote music and sometimes slept.
The investment firm Colony Capital saved the actual Neverland Ranch from going to the auction block last year and is said to be negotiating with the Jackson estate to uproot the entire property to Vegas.
“The idea is to take physically everything that’s not part of the dirt and reassemble it in Las Vegas,” a source revealed.
Though the Jackson estate is said to be “seriously considering” the Ranch’s move to Vegas, a rep for the Jackson family commented, “Since it’s hypothetical and our firm represents [Katherine Jackson, Michael’s mother], we cannot answer.”
