Michael Vick Signs $100M, 6-Year Deal with Eagles

Michael Vick agreed to a contract earlier this month with the Philadelphia Eagles that makes him one of the NFL’s highest paid players – the deal is worth $100 million, including $40 million guaranteed, over 6 years.

Vic was due to earn slightly more than $16 million this season, but with the deal, he will earn a bit less than that. His reduced salary may give the Eagles' salary cap enough flexibility to give Pro Bowl wide receiver DeSean Jackson an extension.

After spending 18 months in prison on dogfighting charges, Vick, 31, joined the Eagles in 2009. There, he played as the 3rd-string quarterback, behind Donovan McNabb and Kevin Kolb. Before that, he had signed a $130 million contract in 2005 with the Atlanta Falcons, but lost it all when he went to jail after being charged for organizing a dogfighting ring, eventually filing for bankruptcy.

Last year, however, Vic led the Eagles to the NFC East title, and was the starting quarterback in the Pro Bowl. He was also named the AP Comeback Player of the Year. He has set career highs in yards passing, touchdowns passing, touchdowns rushing, completion percentage, and passer rating. He was initially reviled by fans when he came back, but has since won many people over with his good behavior off the field.

What do you think about this new Vick deal? I’m probably a bit biased since I've read A LOT about the torture that he put his dogs through to ever look at him as a human being, but I think it’s disgusting that someone can be as violent a criminal as he was and still come back and be the highest-paid-anything in his field.
