The Winklevoss Twins, who claim that Mark Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook, have returned to court to appeal the 2008 case.
A trio of California judges listened to testimony yesterday in the ongoing battle between the Facebook CEO and his former business partners, Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.
The twin brothers were in San Francisco yesterday, where judges from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeal reviewed the Winkelvoss’ proposal to have a 2008 settlement between themselves and Zuckerberg thrown out.
The brothers claim that Zuckerberg stole their idea for Facebook, and initially received $20 million in cash and $45 million in Facebook stock to drop the charges against Zuckerberg. The issue for the judges to consider is whether the twins were misled by Zuckerberg into accepting a relatively low figure in the 2008 payout, which their lawyers argue did not match the multi-billion dollar valuation of Facebook.
The feud was made popular when it was portrayed in the 2010 film The Social Network.
Tuesday’s hearing presented little new information, and the judges seemed reluctant to reopen the case.
A lawyer for Zuckerberg, E. Joshua Rosenkranz, dismissed the Winklevoss’ relaunched claims by proclaiming that the twins “struck a deal that made them very, very rich, and it is making them richer by the day. At some point it is time to move on.”
