Nintendo has invested a lot of time and energy marketing the Wii Fit game console to a wide audience. They have a sizable amount of mind share for the motion based game consoles and with new players on the block such as Kinect they have their work cut out for them to keep the mind share.
One way to maintain their presences is to appeal to a larger, older demographic. After all the Baby Boomers are the largest demographic out there. So why not hire an attractive older famous actress to represent the company in a series of ads?
That’s just what they did. Nintendo set out to get Dame Helen Mirren to shoot a couple of ads for them. They were very adamant that she was who they wanted for the campaign. She fit the profile they were targeting to show that the game console is not just for the kids and their parents, but that grandparents can benefit from the product as well.
In the ad that began running in Australia over the weekend she says “I would have never imagined myself exercising through a video game console and now I feel very, very modern and very young.”
She also claims “I’m not a sporty person, which is why ‘Wii Fit is so good for me personally”
For the two shoot the actress was paid a nice $800,000. I think she is worth the money.
