Here at MyOwnBet, we've covered cool cars and bad ass bikes but no awesome aircraft...until now. Behold the planes of the future.
In 2010, NASA awarded contracts to Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and The Boeing Company to study advanced concept aircraft designs. The designs had to meet a number of stringent NASA guidelines including less noise, cleaner exhaust, and lower fuel consumption than current planes, as well as the ability to fly up to 85 percent of the speed of sound, cover a range of approximately 7,000 miles, and carry between 50,000 and 100,000 pounds of payload, either passengers or cargo. Tha's no easy feat as you can imagine.
Here's what the three firms have come up with (so far). According to NASA's website Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and The Boeing Company will spend the rest of this year "exploring, testing, simulating, keeping and discarding innovations and technologies to make their design a winner."
One of the aircraft below could be in the skies by the year 2025. Which is your favorite?
