Everything Must Go! Sahara Hotel and Casino Hosts Massive Liquidation Sale

The legendary Sahara casino may have closed its doors in May, but fans can still earn a piece of the iconic property. The hotel and casino temporarily reopened Thursday morning to sell just about everything inside, a massive liquidation sale that has attracted hundreds of prospective buyers.

Bargain hunters can scoop up everything from $10 trash cans, $3 playing cards, $150 camel lamps, and hundreds of other unique trinkets that once called the legendary casino home.

“This is a piece of history,” said Terry Ching, a shopper who purchased a pair of chairs from the casino floor. “This was a palace at one time.”

According to Don Hayes, the sale’s organizer, virtually everything is up for grabs, including toilets, signs, pool chairs, bedding and kitchen equipment, and a $12,000 chandelier.

"We don't go to the openings - we go to the closings," said 52-year-old Marc Simon of Las Vegas, who shopped with his wife to furnish a bedroom in his house. "Each one of my rooms in my house is a suite of a different hotel," Simon said. "Every time one of these goes down, we add on to the house."

The liquidation sale will continue until everything is gone.

The Sahara, which opened in 1952, attracted a variety of big name guests during its 59 year run, including Johnny Carson, Clint Eastwood, Judy Garland, , and the Beatles. The “Rat Pack,” team of Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Joey Bishop, and Peter Lawford also performed at the famous casino.
