Honda Fit
Consumer Reports magazine released its annual auto report card on Monday, and the influential publication reported that Honda, Subaru, and Toyota make the best vehicles overall. The popular consumer guide also noted that Ford has made the most improvements.
"Current offerings such as the Fusion, Flex, and Mustang have been impressive, and even the new Fiesta scored well in tests," the magazine said.
With an overall score of 67, Ford was the top-ranking auto manufacturer in the United Sates. Honda earned the highest overall score, 74, while Subaru placed second with 73. Despite consumer claims of defective gas pedals and unintended acceleration, Toyota earned an overall score of 71. Two other U.S. companies, General Motors and Chrysler, scored 56 and 43 respectively.
Consumer Reports determines a vehicle’s score based on reliability and road test performance.
Consumer Reports’ category picks include the Honda Fit (best budget car), the Hyundai Elantra (best small car), the Nissan Altima (best family sedan), and the Toyota RAV4 (best small SUV). The Toyota Prius hybrid (best “green car) and the Kia Sorrento (best family SUV) also earned kudos from the consumer guide, while Consumer Reports named the Ford Mustang as the best sporty car, the Toyota Sienna as the best family hauler, the Infiniti G37 as the best sports sedan, and the Chevrolet Avalanche the best pickup truck.
The Consumer Reports' annual car-buying guide hits newsstands on March 8.
