Miss Universe 2010 - Which Woman Will Win?

Miss Philippines, Venus Raj

We love ladies from lots of lands so we love betting on the Miss Universe pageant. This year's competition is being held in Vegas and 83 countries will be represented by 83 amazingly attractive hotties. Blogs and forums are aflutter with predictions on which worldly woman will win the crown.

Bring on the Belmont!

Belmont Stakes trophy

The 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes is upon us. It's your last chance to bet big on the prestigious Triple Crown. This year's race has an empire state of mind theme, with the "world's most famous office building" being lit up in green and white tonight. Also, the usual theme song of Sinatra's "New York, New York" is being replaced by Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind".

The New York Racing Association is upping the stakes with the $1 Million Pick 4 and Pick 6 wagers for those that bet on the races all day. However, if you're just looking to cash in on the main event, Ice Box appears to be the favorite, followed by First Dude, named after Sarah Palin's husband Todd. And don't forget Fly Down; he's the only horse in the field to win on the Belmont surface. Here's the complete odds, from betting supersite Bodog.com

ICE BOX - 3/1

FIRST DUDE - 7/2

FLY DOWN - 9/2

Get Your Preak On at Preakness Stakes 2010

Get Your Preak On at Preakness Stakes 2010

An edgy new slogan and a bottomless beer deal is causing controversy ahead of the annual Preakness Stakes on Saturday. The Maryland Jockey Club had to do something to bring horse race fans back to Pimlico after last year's staggering 30% attendance drop.

The main reason the second leg of the Triple Crown lost so many fans was because they stopped allowing BYOB (bring your own booze). However, the consolation prize this year is the $20 "Mug Club" with gives you a bottomless beer mug which means unlimited refills starting at 8:30am! So they don't want people bringing in their own brews, yet they'll allow them to chug all day on what could be the best beer deal in sports history?! I think plenty of peeps will be ready to get their preak on by the 6:18 race time!

Which brings us to the edgy new slogan - get your preak on! Conservative critics say the slogan is too sexy and sleazy for a historic thoroughbred horse race. Others believe it's a smart marketing tactic to entice a younger crowd. I wonder if rapper Missy Elliot is flattered by the variation of her 2001 hit single "Get Ur Freak On"? Oh, and don't forget about the bikini contest, cornhole tournament, and scavenger hunt, sure to bring back the raunchy riff raff.

We'll see tomorrow if all this marketing mayhem will pay off for Pimlico. In the meantime, take a look at these odds and place your bets!

Kentucky Derby Odds... and the Hot Brown

The Official Sandwich of the Kentucky Derby, the Hot Brown

As we get ready to celebrate the 136th anniversary of the most prestigious horse race in the world, we're reminded of some of the greatest things about the Kentucky Derby.

While we're not usually too concerned with fashion, we must admit that the fancy dresses and ridiculous hats worn by the women (and even some men) are incredibly amusing.

Another thing we love is the Kentucky straight bourbon. Whether you sip it alone or combine it with mint and sugar for the famous mint julep, it's just simply delicious.

And our last most favorite feature is the food, especially the official sandwich of the Kentucky Derby - the Hot Brown! Imagine some French toast, topped with turkey, bacon, and tomato, then covered with cheese gravy! It may be the most amazing food invention of all time.

So, if you can focus on wagering among all the fashion, food, and booze, read on for the latest betting odds:

Vancouver Winter Olympics Betting Odds

Which country will take home the most medals at the Vancouver Winter Olympics?

Many gamblers are eagerly awaiting the start of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics this Friday. With over 2000 athletes competing in 15 different events, the games give plenty of opportunities for betting big.

One of the most popular Olympics bets is which country will win the most medals. The odds right now put Germany in the lead, followed by the U.S., Russia, and Canada. These predictions mirror the medal results of the 2006 Winter Games in Torino. It's slightly surprising that Norway doesn't have better odds, since that's the country which holds the most Winter Olympic medals with 280, followed by the U.S. with 216.

Here are the odds, according to Sportsbook.com:

  • Germany 1/1
  • USA 7/2
  • Russia 4/1
  • Canada 4/1
  • Norway 12/1
  • Italy 20/1
  • Austria 25/1
  • France 30/1
  • Switzerland 30/1
  • Sweden 50/1
  • Korea 80/1
  • China 100/1
  • Finland 100/1
  • Holland 100/1
  • Japan 100/1

Another popular bet is on Men's Ice Hockey. Current odds favorite Canada with the hometown advantage, followed by Russia, Sweden, and the U.S.

Groundhog Day Predictions

Not Punxsutawney Phil, just a regular old groundhog

Pennsylvania is already hopping with Groundhog Day festivities in preparation for tomorrow's big event. This year marks the 124th time Punxsutawney Phil will make his weather prediction at Gobbler's Knob.

You still have time to place your bets. Gamebookers.com lists this special event's odds at 1/4 that Phil sees his shadow, which means 6 more weeks of winter. Odds that Phil doesn't see his shadow are 5/2. Canadians can also place bets on whether or not Wee Willie will see his shadow. Those odds are 3/5 yes, and 6/5 no.

The party begins at 3am in PA with live entertainment and fireworks. Of course PETA had to jump in on the action, sending a letter to the president of the Punxsutawney PA Groundhog Club suggesting they replace Phil with a robotic rodent.

You can watch the big event live at the VisitPA website, or receive the breaking news via text message! Gotta love technology!
